Bonaparte Before The Sphinx (Oedipus)

This master copy is painted in oil on fine linen after an original by Jean Leon Gerome of the same name.  I saw the original two years ago and decided to make a copy, since I have always admired this painting.  My great grandfather was a master portraitist and he taught himself to paint by copying the works of other artists he admired.  I am very pleased with how this painting turned out, and I am especially impressed by the quality of the frame.  It’s beautiful!  I have adorned the frame with a small nameplate.   “Bonaparte Before the Sphinx (Oedipus) Painted by Derek Mueller after an original by Jean Leon Gerome (1887).
